Go
We are born wild, but then we lose our senses. In a world where food comes in tidy plastic packages, modern footwear binds us into synthetic soles, we swim in chlorine pools and breathe in small shallow chest-gasps while sitting in front of screens for hours at at time—if we are to become wild again, we must practice.
How?
First, go outside. Do not allow the temperature to keep you in. Walk until you find a plant you can touch. Better yet, find a plant you can eat. Is there a plant you can eat near your home? If no, why not? Plant one.
Next, practice doing less. Constant busyness is a disease. Perhaps go barefoot. This is easier in the summer and early autumn months, so savor them. Bare feet on the earth enables your body to connect to the vibration of home. Your real home.
Jump in a lake, river, or ocean.
Or try a shower or bath without using perfumed soap. Cleanse your body with only the water. Let it soften everything. Float rose petals in your tub. Nourish your skin with a natural oil like coconut, argan, neem, jojoba, sesame.
Breathe. Involve your diaphragm, free your belly, allow the backside of your ribs to expand. Sing your own song, make up the words.
Finally, as you dry, move in ways you have never moved before. No one is watching. Be slinky, slow. Oscillate, undulate, whisper. Be like the river.
